Triple Threat Summer Camp
(Musical Theater-Dance/Acting/Voice)

This four day, two week "Triple Threat" camp is a summer camp involving aspects of the "triple threat": dance, voice, and acting. The camp will run three hours, with equal time devoted each day to each discipline. The two weeks of work will culminate in a short presentation of the material the students have learned. Parents are invited to attend the presentation and see all the fun their children had throughout the two weeks.


Learning Objectives

  • Proper posture for singing
  • How singing is a whole-body exercise
  • The concept of "subtext" while performing a song
  • At least one choral piece
  • Several improvisational games
  • The basics of traditional acting techniques and methods
  • How to identify, define, and clarify given circumstances in a scene or play
  • How to interpret and apply the given circumstances to character work
  • Techniques concerning movement in musical theater
  • How to properly spot while performing turns
  • The tools for successful centering while dancing
  • How to "fill the space" on a stage
  • How to activate every moment on stage, whether dancing, singing, or acting
  • General tips for executing a successful musical theater audition
  • Students will learn at least one choral piece, one acting piece, and one dance piece. Monologues, audition songs and dance pieces will also be worked throughout the camp.

  • Camp 1: (June 4 - June 14)
  • Camp 2: (June 18 - June 28)
  • Camp 3: (July 9 - 19)
  • Camp 4: (July 23 - Aug 2)

Camp Time/Duration

  • Length: Two Weeks
  • Days: Monday - Thursday
  • Hours: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Requirements

  • Four student minimum
  • Lunch is not provided
  • Students must bring their own jazz shoes and/or jazz sneakers.
    Absolutely no outdoor shoes will be permitted on the dance floor.
  • Students should wear comfortable clothes that are conducive to movement.
  • Students should be prepared to present and sing 16 to 32 bars of a song a capella to be worked on in voice class.
  • A prepared monologue would be helpful, but is not required.

Cost

  • $300.00 per two week session per student
  • Student material must be purchased separately based on instructor recommendation

Instructors

Andi Bloemker

Andi is a singer/actor/dancer who recorded her first album at age 17. Since then, she’s toured five times with The Young Americans traveling across the U.S. and Europe, teaching, singing, dancing and acting. While with The Young Americans, Andi was able to experience a wide variety of dance styles from teachers and performers from all over the world. She’s studied Classical Voice at Chapman University in Orange, California and danced at several studios in the LA area. She’s earned her degree in Fine Arts, emphasis in Acting, from Lindenwood University, and actively pursues a career in the performing arts. Most recently, she has appeared in productions such as A Clockwork Orange (Georgie, Minister), Company (Amy), Cabaret (Fraulein Schneider), and Into the Woods (the Witch).

Tammy Ballinger

Tammy Ballinger has been studying dance across the country for 18 years. She has studied all genres of dance primarily in the St. Louis, MO area, but also in Oklahoma City, New York, and Los Angeles. Tammy has also been a dance instructor, choreographer, and judge for the National Dance Alliance across the country. She has a Bachelor of Scince Degree in Dance Management from the internationally known Oklahoma City University, where she studied dance and business and also performed in numerous dance and musical theatre productions. Tammy is currently traveling the country as a judge for Starlight Productions Talent Competition and is based out of the St. Louis area where she is teaching, choreographing, and coaching.

Whitney Fallon Cornick

Whitney has been studying dance since age two and has traveled to Los Angeles to study at The Edge Performing Arts Center and The Millennium Dance Complex and to New York City to study at Steps on Broadway. Whitney has also taught dance at the Center of Creative Arts (COCA) in St. Louis, as well as Renee Johnson’s Dance Studio. She is a current choreographer at Lindenwood University for the Fall Dance Concerts. Whitney is also an actor who has studied with Peter Sklar in New York, and Marnie Cooper, David Wells, and Sally Piper in Los Angeles. She has appeared in the American Kids show in Branson, Missouri, as well as numerous plays and musicals. Whitney is currently pursuing degrees in Musical Theatre and Biology at Lindenwood University while staying actively involved in the entertainment industry.
